| I just posted about this in another thread about a week ago. I ran into the issue again yesterday. So this makes 2 in a row. It seems Samsung has done something to their IR unit on their 5500, 5900 (and maybe other models) BluRay players. This is 2 of them that I could not get to work with an IR kit. I tried both the Xantech Dinky Link, and the SnapAV unit. Neither will work. I ended up swapping both units for Sony's. Why did I go through it twice you ask? The retailer is giving the BluRay's away with the Samsung 8000 TV's. The odd part is that I've installed plenty of these units in the past with IR kits without problems. In fact, I own a Samsung 5900 an don't have any issues, but these new units are different. Just thought I'd let you guys know. |

| Replaced an old Sony with a Samsung 5500 today on a URC system, worked pretty spot on. Maybe an odd batch. |

| They may work with MRF XXX but I can't get them to work with just spefically IR Kits. Seems like it may be similar to ATT Uverse. NEver have a problem with ATT Uverse and MRFXXX, but they don't work well with IR kits. |

The C series samsung DVD players had very sensitive ir receivers. If your signal was to strong they either wouldn't work or a button press could result in getting the same command 2-4 times.
If using a control system setting the repeats to 0 fixes the problem. If using an ir repeater system turn it down or don't put the emitter directly over the receiver.
The new D series seem to be much more stable.

I think it's true that IR system emitters put out a stronger signal than remotes. Overload shows poor IR sensor design, but there's nothing we can do about it out here. There should be a box that takes in one IR bus and outputs, say, four LED signals, each of which has a level control in the box. If using a control system setting the repeats to 0 fixes the problem. If using an ir repeater system turn it down or don't put the emitter directly over the receiver. What's really bogus is that the sensor won't work with the factory remote. I recently had this problem with a Panasonic Blu=ray that that customer supplied. It would not work with the LED at ANY distance from the player! |

On small jobs (hang and bangs) sometimes it doesn't make sense to provide a MX880 or even a MX450 for a customer who has a Cable box and a DVD player. But if you've got an alternative, please enlighten me. Unfortunately I can't stay at their homes forever to insert DVD's and change channels. Sir, your TV installation is going to cost $600. Your remote control is going to cost $750. What doesn't make sense? |

| I will never ever ever ever touch another samsung bluray player. Denon, marantz, oppo and sony for the average and up jobs, panasonic for the cheep jobs. Samsung bluray has cost me a ton of $$$$ over the years in wasted service time. I have found it is simply more cost effective in the long run to install a legitimate player. |

| I ran into a bad string of Samsungs.I didn't have a chance to check out the control part....they just didn't work out of the box! Had similar issues with Sony but not to the same extent. We went with LG for the short term for the lower priced systems with no issues. |

Additional to the above, I have read that the drives of the Samsung BDPs emit interference that causes problems with RF controls system.
Also - at least on some models - there are no discreets on/off but that can somehow be overcome with the proper macros in a control system,

+1 for LG on inexpensive systems.
Then it's Oppo all the way.

| Maybe late to the party here but I stopped selling samsung blurays a long time ago. What a headache. You said I was only on the free units that came with the tvs. My first thought is I remember installing a couple of samsung blurays thT were refurbished that would not control at all under he code set to that model. I had to use a different code set I found on Ccp to get it to work. Also, if I is just a tv and bluray, did you try to control it using anynet on the tv remote? |
